IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY IN THE WORKPLACE




1. It protects employees and the employer from death or injury. 
2. It teaches workers how to work in a safe environment. 
3. It keeps everyone feel safe and happy. 
4. It teaches the workers to pay attention to their surroundings. 
5. It prevents companies from law suits. 

HISTORY OF OSH IN MALAYSIA

The history of occupational safety and health in Malaysia started in the 19th century, with safe boiler usage, safe machinery operation, industrial safety and hygiene, which finally led to the implementation of occupational safety and health in all industries. There are five eras of safety and health development in Malaysia. 
  • Steam boiler safety ( before 1914 )
  • Machinery safety ( 1914 - 1952 )
  • Industrial safety ( 1953 - 1967 )
  • Industrial safety and hygiene ( 1970 - 1994 ) 
  • Occupational safety and health era ( 1994 onwards )

WHAT IS OSH?

CONCEPT OF OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH :

An Act to make further provisions for securing the safety, health and welfare of persons at work , for protecting others against risks to safety or health in connection with the activities of persons at work, to establish the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health, and for matters connected therewith.
